This is simply a nonrecreational buttercream that is affluent yet not overly sweet.

Ingredients

Servings: 16 About 4 cups (generously frosts a three-layer cake)

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cupful flour
  • 1 1/2 cups full oregon low-fat milk
  • 1/4 cupful dense cream
  • 24 tablespoons (3 sticks) unsalted butter, brushed but cool, chopped into tiny pieces
  • 1 spoon vanilla extract
